West London Kung Fu teaches traditional Shaolin Hung Gar Kuen, a five animals kung fu style, to adults and older teens in Teddington. Operating from Bushy Park, the club offers practical self-defence combined with chi gung dynamic yoga, striking, grappling, throwing, vital point techniques, weapons training, and energy cultivation.
The instruction distinguishes itself through accessibility. Unlike many martial arts schools, West London Kung Fu welcomes people of all body types, ages, and fitness levels. The methodology prioritises natural movement and good body mechanics, making it particularly suited to women and older adults. There's no requirement to be super fit before starting; the training builds fitness progressively whilst delivering immediate health benefits.
The club operates under the Wei-t-o Kung Fu organisation, preserving the Ti Ku Sam Lineage established by the late Sifu Geof Hasbrouck. Instructor Tom Bayley, aged 50, is a qualified teacher continuing the organisation's mission to share the joy of traditional kung fu practice.
Beyond self-defence applications, students develop improved coordination, posture, balance, flexibility, strength, and reduced stress. The single weekly Saturday morning class (10–11am) creates an intimate learning environment. The generous introductory offer—two free sessions—removes barriers to trying the art.
