BMAKG Essex Karate Club, led by Sensei Steve Perry, is an established martial arts training facility serving the South Ockendon and wider Essex area. With over 25 years of teaching experience and credentials including 5th Dan Black Belt Karate, 4th Dan Kempo Jujitsu, and expertise in kickboxing, XMA and freestyle disciplines, Sensei Steve brings genuine expertise to every class.
The club welcomes beginners through to advanced practitioners, aged 4 to adults, offering structured karate lessons based on traditional styles combined with modern teaching methods. Classes emphasise building confidence, focus, fitness, respect and self-esteem alongside practical self-defence skills. Children benefit from improved concentration and academic performance, whilst families can train together in joint sessions.
What distinguishes this club is its competitive pedigree. Budo Elite, their demonstration and competition team, has achieved exceptional recognition – this year 12 members were selected for the national squad to represent Great Britain at the European Games, and the team received recognition from the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. The club also coaches world and national champions.
The inclusive, family-friendly approach extends to affordability and accessibility. New members need only wear loose clothing; karate uniforms can be purchased directly from the club. An annual awards ceremony ensures all students are recognised and celebrated. Regular demonstrations throughout the year maintain engagement and community involvement.
