Atado Ju Jitsu Club Oxford is an established martial arts academy founded in 1968, offering authentic Ju Jitsu training for adults aged 15 and upwards. Led by Sensei David Rogers (Yodan), the club welcomes complete beginners through to experienced practitioners from other martial arts disciplines.
The club distinguishes itself through its practical, real-world focus. Rather than teaching flashy, impractical techniques, instructors emphasise functional self-defence applicable to genuine threats. Training covers disarming armed attackers, controlling assailants, throws, groundwork and situational awareness. This pragmatic approach is underpinned by the instructors' extensive backgrounds—several Black Belts have served in the police force or worked as licensed door supervisors, bringing genuine street-level experience to their teaching.
All instructors hold Black Belt status, First Aid qualifications and DBS certification, ensuring a safe, professional learning environment. The club operates from South Oxford Community Centre with sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays (8-10pm), accommodating varying schedules and experience levels.
Membership is deliberately accessible. New students can try a free introductory lesson or commit to five starter sessions for £35. Ongoing training costs just £9 per session with no monthly subscription required. Formal membership, including insurance and a licence, costs £25 initially, then £20 annually. Student concessions are available. The club provides belts and uniforms if needed, removing barriers to participation.
