Hanwell Karate Club is a community-based martial arts school in West London offering traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu karate training for children and adults. Led by Chief Instructor Sensei Nigel Thomas, an 8th Dan with over fifty years of experience and direct links to Okinawa's Higaonna Sensei, the club delivers authentic karate rooted in genuine tradition rather than sport-focused competition.
The club serves complete beginners through to advanced practitioners, welcoming all ages and fitness levels in a supportive environment. Children benefit from structured classes that develop coordination, discipline and self-defence skills, whilst adults gain practical close-quarters combat techniques alongside physical conditioning and personal confidence building.

Goju-Ryu's signature "hard-soft" approach—blending powerful strikes with circular, flowing blocks—creates an effective real-world self-defence system. The club operates as an affiliated TOGKF dojo, part of the Traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Federation founded by Master Morio Higaonna. Classes held at St Mary's Church Hall create an accessible community space where respect, discipline and confidence form the foundation of training.
