# Martial Arts Uniting Ladies (MAUL)
MAUL is a women-centred taekwondo club based in Cambridge, founded on the principle that martial arts should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, body type, learning style or confidence level. The club is distinctly different from traditional martial arts environments by being run for women, by women, with an emphasis on respect, teamwork and philosophical understanding rather than hierarchy and competition.
Chief Instructor Wendi has created a supportive community where members learn taekwondo technique whilst studying the underlying martial philosophy. The club celebrates martial arts as artistic movement that builds both physical and mental strength, recognising that traditional male-dominated competitive structures can undermine the joy and confidence-building aspects of training.
MAUL serves women of all experience levels and backgrounds who want to develop technical skill, physical fitness and mental resilience in a collaborative rather than competitive environment. Members benefit from peer support and instruction, working through challenges together as a unified group rather than as individual competitors.
What distinguishes MAUL is its explicit commitment to inclusivity and its rejection of hierarchy-based learning models. Rather than the belt-ranking competitiveness typical of many martial arts clubs, MAUL prioritises collective growth, mutual respect and the holistic development of its members. The emphasis on studying martial arts philosophy alongside technique creates a more meaningful and culturally aware training experience than purely technical instruction.
