Ildokwan Taekwondo is an authentic martial arts academy in Bristol offering traditional Chung Do Kwan Taekwondo training for men, women and children. Founded on principles of authentic technique, practical application and strong family values, the school is led by 9th Dan Grand Master Andy Davies, a former nine-time British Champion and European Silver Medallist inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
What sets Ildokwan apart is its direct lineage to Chung Do Kwan, one of the original founding schools of Taekwondo established in 1944. The academy is uniquely positioned as the only officially approved Practical Taekwondo Academy in the region, emphasising functional self-defence and real-world combat application rather than sport-based training alone. This practical focus stems from Grand Master Kim Bok-man's military background and frontline combat experience, whose teachings were passed directly to Chief Instructor Andy Davies.
The school maintains active connections with the World Taekwondo Chung Do Kwan Federation in Korea, ensuring training remains grounded in authentic, proven methodology. Both Andy Davies and training partner Mark Iles are among the UK's most senior Chung Do Kwan 9th Dan Grand Masters, certified directly by the Korean federation.
Ildokwan's name means "School of Unity," reflecting their cohesive family-oriented approach. The academy welcomes complete beginners through to advanced practitioners, offering a one-month free trial to prospective members.
