Tenchu Combat Concepts is a specialist martial arts school based in Rugby, Warwickshire, offering authentic training in traditional Japanese Ninjutsu, Filipino Kali, and reality-based self-defence combatives. The school serves adults seeking comprehensive martial arts education that bridges ancient techniques with practical modern applications.
What distinguishes Tenchu Combat Concepts is its multi-style approach, drawing from nine traditional Japanese Ryuha (schools) encompassing 36 distinct skill sets historically used by Shinobi masters. Rather than focusing solely on competition-based sports martial arts, the school emphasises depth of understanding. Students progress through traditional kata (forms), develop ambidextrous flowing techniques influenced by Filipino Martial Arts, then learn realistic self-defence applications grounded in RBSD (Reality Based Self Defence) principles.
The training philosophy uniquely combines Kuden (concepts) and Gokui (secrets) with practical execution, ensuring students gain genuine confidence through understanding not just techniques, but their underlying principles and real-world applicability. All Filipino Kali training is overseen by Guro Tom Peña, a credentialled instructor bringing recognised expertise.
The school also offers specialist services including restoration and maintenance of traditional Japanese blades (Katana, Wakizashi, Tanto) with authentic Tsukamaki wrapping. Classes operate regularly at Rugby Eco Hub, with current membership offers providing free introductory lessons for new students.
